Introduction

As we have said again Young Miniatures from Korea has been placed between the most well appreciated miniatures companies lately. The themes, and above all the skilled sculpting and the superb quality of casting, has made Young Miniatures a favorite company to many modelers. The founder Young B. Song, a superb sculptor and painter, based a lot his companies growing in busts, but also releases figures in 90 mm and 70 mm.

Here we will examine a bust release from Young Miniatures “DAK Panzer Officer”, sculpted and painted (box art) by Young.

This bust also, was the choice for the bust competing figure of the 2nd Nations Trophy competition that was held in Athens during the May Star Show 2007 competition.

The Bust (what’s in the box)

This 1/10 scale bust, comes in a total of 11 resin pieces, some wire for the headset cabling and 12 photo etched pieces. A small resin base, a resin cylindrical peg for mounting the bust on the base, the torso, the head, the hat, 4 pieces for the headset, the binoculars, a small frame with 12 photo etched parts to be used on the headset assembly, and the wire to cut the headset cables. Besides the metal pieces all the rest come in a yellowish resin of high quality. There is also small paper printed guide for the PE parts

Young Miniatures packaging is superb. Big size black hard carton box with a transparent plastic sleeve over it to protect the color picture of the box art. Inside all the pieces in thick foam sheets sandwich, are perfectly protected. This box deserves to be kept for further use definitely!

Quality – Detail:

Figure painters know well that Young Miniatures, release miniatures in a high quality and well historically documentated. The resin of the casting is in very high quality. I inspected the material very carefully trying to find a small, tiny air hole, or some fault but that was not possible.

The casting is flawless and modeler just has to decide what to assemble and what to paint separately. Minor treatment and sanding will be needed.

After you do this minor cleaning, you can proceed to priming and painting. I think that it will suit many modelers to paint head and hat apart for more flexibility. The dry fitting showed absolutely no worries for the final fitting.

The sculpture is beautiful, both on face and the uniform elements. Everything is very well defined. The characteristics of the face are matching perfectly these of a German officer, and the uniform details is beautiful.

Painting it

The box art is a good guide of the bust painting, but I guess it is very easy through internet to get as many information you would like to have.

A bust for a bit experienced painters, mostly because of the headset construction , cabling and PE pieces, that will need patience and care to come out clean and neat .

This can definitely be a nice piece in your showcase especially if you like WWII themes . I have seen it already painted a lot in competitions and I think I will keep on seeing it the next years.

Conclusion

For bust painters, and especially the ones that appreciate WWII themes, this will definitely be a must have superb quality, nice detailing and a skilled sculpting will attract the patient painter to make a nice piece out of this kit.
Young Miniatures deserves a bravo for their release

About Costas Rodopoulos (Major_Goose)
FROM: KIKLADHES, GREECE / Ελλάδα

I started modelling 27 years ago with some 1/72 planes and military vehicles. Soon the diorama bug got into me and with Sheperd Paynes books I dug in. I loved to build dioramas and military vehicles till the Vietnam Era. I don't like modern stuff so much. 4 years ago I had a crush on figure painti...
